Vision, Mission, Values

WISA is a not for-profit, independent, productive organisation and network.

Purpose

Why we exist

To connect and champion women in the seafood industry and contribute to an inclusive industry where people, businesses and communities can thrive.

Vision

The future we want

Women are connected and supported to participate, contribute and lead in a seafood industry that recognises and values diversity and inclusion.

Our Role

How we create change

We connect and support women, strengthen their visibility and influence, and work with members, allies and industry leaders to promote inclusive practices across the seafood industry.

Values

Our values shape how we engage with members and industry, and how we lead, govern and make decisions.

Welcoming
We create environments where people in all their diversity feel respected, included and able to contribute.
Inspiring
We encourage possibility, leadership and positive change, and celebrate the contribution of women across the seafood industry.
Supportive
We connect, collaborate and help others to contribute, grow and succeed.
Authentic
We are genuine, transparent and grounded in the experiences of our members and the communities we serve.

How We Work

WISA's primary focus is to connect, support and champion women in the seafood industry, in all their diversity. We recognise that women's experiences of participation, opportunity and leadership are shaped by intersecting identities, cultures, locations, circumstances and lived experience.

By listening to members, seeking out perspectives that are less often heard, and working with allies and industry partners, we strengthen our work for women and promote an industry in which diverse knowledge, expertise and contributions are recognised and valued.

Regional Focus

WISA's work is centred in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. We also seek relationships and opportunities across New Guinea and the wider Indo-Pacific where they align with WISA's purpose, priorities and available capacity.

Acknowledgement of First Peoples

WISA acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of land, sea and sky, recognising their deep, enduring connection to these places. We pay our respects to Elders past and present who hold the knowledge, culture and spiritual connections to land, sky and waters and whose guidance continues to shape their sustainable, ethical and responsible care.

We recognise Māori as tangata whenua of Aotearoa New Zealand and respect the district First Nations and Indigenous peoples, cultures and knowledge systems across New Guinea and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
