At Women in Seafood Australasia (WISA), we believe that when women are supported to lead, the whole industry thrives.
Our Bursary Program helps women from every corner of the seafood sector, from boats to boardrooms, take part in major industry conferences and events, build networks, and grow their confidence as leaders.
Each bursary is more than a ticket to attend, it’s a fully supported learning experience. Recipients connect through WISA-led workshops, panels, and networking sessions, and stay part of the journey through our Bursary Alumni Network. With WISA Guppies childcare available at key events, we’re also breaking down one of the most common barriers to participation.
The results speak for themselves. Bursary recipients report stronger networks, new opportunities, and a clearer sense of where they want to go, with many stepping into leadership programs, board roles, and mentoring others along the way.
Our bursaries are made possible through the generous support of partners who believe in an inclusive and sustainable seafood industry. Each bursary proudly carries its partner’s name and is recognised at events and across WISA’s growing national network.
Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected seafood community.

We’re excited to officially open EOIs for the WISA Seafood Directions 2026 Bursary Program.
We are offering up to 7 bursaries for women working in or with the Australian seafood industry to attend Seafood Directions 2026, Sydney, 28–30 July.
This is more than support to attend a conference. It is an opportunity to be part of one of Australia’s biggest seafood industry events, immerse yourself in the heart of the seafood community, build new connections, and grow professionally alongside others across the sector.
Successful bursars will receive a supported and structured experience, including:
• attendance at Seafood Directions 2026
three virtual pre-conference sessions
• support to develop a personal learning plan and networking plan
• a pre-conference meet and greet
• on-site support from WISA during the conference
• group debriefs and connection opportunities with other bursars
• two post-conference reflection sessions and follow-up support
The bursary can cover conference registration, key event tickets, travel, accommodation, meals, and approved childcare or land-based travel support where needed.
This program is designed to support women who may otherwise face barriers to attending, helping bursars feel prepared, connected, confident, and ready to make the most of the experience.
A huge thank you to our sponsors and supporters for helping make this opportunity possible. We are so grateful to have you on board.
Government of South Australia, Queensland Government, Government of Western Australia, Tasmanian Government and Victoria Government.
Applications close 11 May.

12 WISA Members were selected bursars made the most of this opportunity, fully embracing the conference to network, learn, and grow. Many have shared that the experience was transformative, offering them invaluable insights and new connections.
The chance to immerse themselves in discussions, presentations, and networking with industry leaders has empowered them to return to their communities with renewed knowledge, confidence, and passion for the future of the seafood industry.
Thank you to our 2024 Bursary Partners for demonstrating true leadership in building an inclusive, safe, and sustainable seafood industry. Together, we’re creating opportunities that strengthen both women and the sector.
